Our Commitment to Environmental Planning and Heritage Standards

The St. Rita at Marylake Long-Term Care Home will better serve the needs of King Township’s seniors by bringing modern, quality long-term care to more residents and their families. This will help keep seniors close to their loved ones, a vision shared by many residents.

With construction well underway, community members must be accurately informed about the project. The St. Rita at Marylake project is committed to upholding standards of environmental excellence and maintaining the Marylake campus’ long-standing commitment to the region’s environmental heritage in partnership with the Township of King.

Recently, a small coalition has raised unfounded concerns about the project’s infrastructure planning, including false claims about water contamination.

As part of the planning process, a team of highly qualified servicing engineers, as well as a hydrogeologist and a biologist designed servicing plans for a more modern stormwater discharge system that will result in a net positive benefit to the environment and the Marylake site. All pre-construction environmental studies determined that there were no concerns with the upgraded stormwater management system plans.

These plans were also reviewed extensively by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority and no issues with the proposed plan were identified, leading to the issuing of all proper permits and approvals for the project.

The new long-term care home will also upgrade ageing infrastructure – including replacing a leaking septic system, a leaching heating system, and the removal of all toxic materials from the existing building – to benefit the King community and local environment for years to come.

The project team is grateful to many residents of King Township for their support, and share optimism about the benefits the St. Rita at Marylake Long-Term Care Home will bring to the community.
